I wish that Dr. Seuss had written and illustrated a book of love poetry. Because right now, this is all I have.
Oh lady, play upon your lute
For Summer shall come soon
And flowers rise some ten feet high,
They grow quite large in June.
Oh lady, sing a little song,
About the flowers gay,
They’re not twelve inch wide scraps of cloth–
They only look that way.
Oh lady, play a merry tune
and tarry ‘neath the trees,
And just ignore the buzzing sound
Of giant stinging bees.
Oh lady, play a jaunty aire,
This world is but a shelf,
The sun is but a 10-watt bulb,
and you and I are delft.
Oh lady, sing a roundelay,
or perhaps a ballanade–
Of love, for that we understand–
The rest is really odd.
